Connectivity and Firewalls

Firewalls are available in two ways: software applications that run in the background, and hardware devices that connect a modem with one or more PCs. Both types of firewalls hide the PC's presence from other systems, prevent unauthorized access from external sources, and monitor network traffic across the firewall.

To configure firewall settings, contact the network administration department or the firewall manufacturer.

Connecting to the Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner Server

The Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner (JIFP) connects to Jeppesen servers delta.jepptech.com and foxtrot.jepptech.com using port 1986  If you are behind a firewall, you might need to allow outgoing connections on this port. You do not need to allow incoming connections on any ports to use the system.

Connecting to Your Weather Provider

If you are behind a corporate or personal firewall, you must have access to the following domains and ports for your weather provider:

See Creating a Provider Account for weather provider information.

Proxy Configurations

JIFP uses a binary protocol that cannot be transmitted over a standard HTTP/Web proxy. In order to proxy these connections, a binary proxy, such as SOCKS4/5 or an SSL Tunnel is required. A program such as DeleGate or SSH can be used to create a local connection endpoint that corresponds to the actual server address (delta.jepptech.com and foxtrot.jepptech.com, port 1986). The application must be configured to connect to the local endpoint using the "override" connection settings.

Disconnecting from JIFP

JIFP automatically disconnects from the server after thirty minutes of inactivity. You receive a five-minute warning that JIFP will disconnect from the server, giving you the opportunity to stay connected. If you do get disconnected, the application does not close; it only disconnects you from the server. If you have any unsaved changes to your route while disconnected, continue with the saving process of the route. JIFP automatically connects to the server as soon as an action is taken that requires server connection.
