Whenever you create a flight plan, JIFP initially starts with certain altitudes and power settings. These starting values are taken from the Aircraft Defaults tab of the aircraft model.
If you are editing an existing aircraft model, you can access Aircraft Defaults by performing the following actions:
Select an aircraft model.
To edit the aircraft set as the default, click Edit > Aircraft Data > Edit Current Aircraft to display the Edit Default Aircraft Model dialog box and the Basic Info tab.
For an aircraft that is not set as the default, click Edit > Aircraft Data > Select Aircraft Data. Select the pilot aircraft model, and click Edit to display the Edit Aircraft Model dialog box.
Select the Aircraft Defaults tab in the Edit Aircraft Model or the Edit Default Aircraft Model dialog box.
JIFP stores defaults for your aircraft cruising Altitude, Default RPM, and Default MP. The particular items entered here depend on the performance model that was used when entering the aircraft data.
You must choose a Default RPM and Default MP appropriate for the specified altitude. On non-turbocharged aircraft, you can determine the available manifold pressure by subtracting the altitude in thousands of feet from the approximately 30 inches of available sea-level pressure.
For Descent, enter a Default RPM and Default MP that provide a good average for what you normally use. You can re-adjust it later if JIFP seems to compute inappropriate fuel burns for the descent segments of your trips.
Click Next and complete your Aircraft Model Setup by giving your aircraft a name to be added to the System Aircraft directory (see Saving Your Selected Aircraft).
