Using the Profile View

The profile window is a very powerful feature of JIFP that displays a lot of information about your proposed route:

The line of flight is plotted and displayed as a purple line from left to right in the profile. The horizontal axis of the profile displays distance across the top. Waypoint names from your route mark the horizontal axis at the bottom, listed left to right from departure to destination. Altitude increments display along the vertical axis.

When Winds Aloft data has been downloaded, the light blue arrows indicate direction and strength along the route. Hover the mouse over an arrow to see a tooltip with wind heading and speed, and route tailwind and crosswind components.

MEAs for IFR routes are shown by the yellow bars. Terminal airspace is shown as blue shaded areas, and restricted areas are shown in red.

Displaying or Hiding the Profile View

The profile window is active only when you have an actual route planned and displayed in the chart window.

To view, enlarge, or hide the profile:

  1. Move the mouse pointer over the lower edge of the chart window until it changes to a double-sided arrow:

Changing the Profile Vertical Scale

To change the vertical axis or altitude scale of the profile window, move your mouse pointer over the top of the profile window just below the black border.
