Selecting Route-Around Options

The Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner (JIFP) offers many route-around options for terminal airspace, non-terminal airspace, and current TFRs. The route-around options are applicable for all route types except for Great Circle routing. Before creating a route, select your route-around options. Any selections made are saved until later changed.

  1. Click Tools > Options > Routing.

  2. Select the classes of airspace you want to avoid.

  1. Select Avoid Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) to avoid any active TFRs.

  2. Select Mark FIR Crossing Points to add a waypoint to the route when the flight path crosses the FIR.

  3. A user-defined waypoint with the name of the FIR is added at the point where the route crosses the FIR. In the flight plan, the latitude and longitude of the FIR crossing waypoint is used.

  1. Click OK.

The selections are saved until they are manually changed again. Route-around options are used for future routes that are created after the settings take place. They are not used for any routes that were created and saved before the route-around options were identified or imported routes.

NOTE If JIFP cannot find a path for your proposed route, the system displays a message stating "No airway path could be found between 'departure' and 'destination'". You might need to clear some avoidance check boxes. This message also occurs if the departure or destination airport is within a TFR.

In situations where you have to fly from a TFR or into a TFR to reach your airport, plan your route with a nearby airport outside the TFR. When the route is generated, use the rubberband method to drag the waypoint from that airport, and drop it on the airport where you need to fly. This procedure should work for departing and arriving routes.
